Matthew Marcum is an interdisciplinary artist whose body of work consists of a diversified practice with performance being the central focus. Marcum has appeared in many stage productions such as: Hair,Tommy, Godspell, Sexual Perversity in Chicago,West Side Story, and Crumble Justin Timberlake. Marcum was featured in Playbill Magazine for his work as Galileo in the Mid West premiere of the Queen musical We Will Rock You. Also a very accomplished musician, Marcum was a featured male vocalist for American Entertainment Productions performing in musical reviews in IL, NH, and PA. After fronting the Pittsburgh based jam band Jive Odyssey, Marcum went solo with the release of his debut album Spirit Chain. In 2006 Marcum was chosen as a Chicago Fox idol by Fox News and was featured on the WGN morning show for his work in We Will Rock You and Hair. He has appeared in the major motion picture Savannah, the independent film Gretchen and Faust and has created a wide range of solo performance pieces such as: Surreal Estate, The Sum of Some Parts, Fins and Acquaintances, and The Reinventionalist.


Aside from performance Marcum has also been recognized for his work in writing, directing, and production. Marcum was on the board of directors for the Tonkawa Theatre Tribe staging performances in venues such as Strawdog Theatre, Live Bait Theatre, and Lakeshore Theatre (Chicago). He made his directorial debut with the original piece He Pulls My Strings at Excetera VI Experimental Theatre Festival, wrote and directed The Preoccupation of Danny Glitter for the Eastern Pennsylvania Theatre Festival, directed and produced The Sanity of Byron Constantin at Gorilla Tango Theatre (Chicago) and group showcases such as: The Fresh Ink Showcase Series, Strings and Threads, and Style Out Loud. After moving to Nashville Marcum created his own production company and record label The Unconventional Empire, became a member of Actor's Bridge Side Show Ensemble, and a producing artist for The Side Show Fringe Festival. Most recently Marcum became an artist in residence with Boheme Collectif where he creates experimental performance pieces, teaches performance classes, and hosts Nashville's hippest underground art party It's A Happening.

Marcum holds a Masters Degree in Interdisciplinary Arts from Columbia College Chicago.
